About Me
Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself and tell you about my work as a physician and physician administrator at Kaiser Permanente. I am a board-certified internal medicine and infectious diseases physician. I have practiced for over 30 years with Kaiser Permanente. For my entire career I have had administrative as well as direct patient care responsibilities. I feel fortunate to be working as a clinician and an administrator to make Kaiser Permanente one of the best health care delivery systems in the country.
Biography
Both my wife and I were born and raised in the Philadelphia area but came to California in 1971 for training, fell in love with the people and the climate, and elected to put down our roots here. A major attraction for me from the very beginning was my feeling that the Kaiser Permanente model of integrated health care delivery-that is, having the insurance plan, physicians, and hospitals all working closely together-provides the very best in patient care.
About my practice
Medicine as a career is a very special opportunity to connect with and help people in a meaningful way, utilizing medical skills and knowledge but also listening and responding to what patients need. In my capacity as a general internist I have had the honor of caring for certain patients for more than 30 years. As an infectious disease specialist I have cared for patients with a wide variety of conditions, including HIV infection. I have been caring for HIV patients since the very beginning of the epidemic. Because of the remarkable medications we now have available, I have cared for individual HIV patients for more than 25 years. I feel very honored that patients have entrusted me with their care and greatly value the relationships that I have been able to build over a long period of time.
How I thrive
Family is my major focus outside of medicine. I have had the good fortune to be married for 38 years, have three wonderful children, and have been blessed with two grandchildren. Combining exercise and travel is a major avocation of my wife's and mine. We have run many marathons together and very much enjoy "training to go on vacation." We have many other interests as well; for example, I also very much enjoy photography, and my wife is a master knitter.
