About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this opportunity to tell you about my practice and myself.

Biography

I bring to my practice a strong background in science and an enjoyment in interacting with and helping people. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, I spent 10 years engaged in research on the immune system. My decision to leave the laboratory was not an easy one. I was, however, convinced that I could continue to be satisfied intellectually by keeping abreast of the scientific advances that affect clinical practice and that a practice would provide an opportunity for personal interactions that are lacking in the laboratory. Knowing that the allergists at Kaiser Permanente were well known for their important contributions to clinical research made the decision a lot easier. Since joining the Allergy Department in 1983, I have found my predictions to be correct. The advances in our understanding of allergic and immune disorders have been remarkable, and so have the advances in treatment. My colleagues in the department are great.

About my practice

I am a generalist in the Allergy and Immunology Department. I see adult patients with any allergic or immunologic disorder. I consider it to be my responsibility to help people understand their condition as best as the present state of medical knowledge allows, to inform them accurately regarding therapeutic options and to help them choose among those options.

How I thrive

I like to learn things every day and challenge myself to see things from different perspectives. I suspect that is why I love the arts, even though I learned early on that I have no artistic talent. I am an avid reader. Although my dedication to my work results in most of my reading being on the subject of medicine, I enjoy reading anything that provides insights into the human condition. My wife and dog remind me that there are things in the world that are best appreciated by putting away the books. We hike in local canyons and enjoy the ocean. Vacations are frequently spent traveling in the Northwest and Southwest, enjoying the natural wonders there.
