Acerca de mí
I am originally from Arkansas, but trained in Massachusetts and Connecticut. In medical school, I was a Fulbright Scholar to Peru where I met my husband, an engineer. After completing my pediatric residency, my husband and I happily left the snow and cold of the North behind to move to Atlanta so that I could complete a two-year fellowship at the Center for Disease Control (CDC). At the CDC, I served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer in the Respiratory Diseases Branch. I investigated outbreaks, analyzed data and learned a great deal of applied epidemiology, which I use daily as a clinician to help provide evidence-based care to our members. My husband and I have two young daughters who add to my pediatric knowledge base each day and challenge me to put my own advice to practice!
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I am a pediatrician, and I have a special interest in infant feeding and newborn well care, particularly lactation. I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2005 and have been working in lactation for nearly 10 years. I love helping new mothers reach their breastfeeding goals and helping with common breastfeeding difficulties, such as low supply. On the other side of the pediatric spectrum, I also find working with adolescents very rewarding. I specifically enjoy providing basic gynecologic and reproductive health care to adolescent girls in our practice.
Cómo vivo bien
I count myself lucky to have a career that complements my family life and role as a mother of young children. I thrive by spending time with my family, and also taking the time to care for myself - a challenge for any parent. I love running, swimming, volunteering in our church, gardening and cooking. I especially love cooking Peruvian food, one of the world's greatest cuisines.
