By nature, I am a good, active listener. As a native New Yorker and with so much to do and see in the Big Apple, I have always found myself exploring and meeting new people. I was drawn to the field of psychiatry very early on because I enjoyed talking to people. My love of exploration and travel carried me out of NYC to Binghamton, N.Y. for college, where I majored in psychobiology. Following college, I taught science for two years, where all the holiday breaks were perfect for continued travel and exploration. While I enjoyed teaching junior high school and high school students, (and later residents and fellows), my true love is providing care to my patients. I knew I wanted to give more, and give differently, and was later fortunate to be able to venture abroad for medical studies and return to NYC for the completion of my training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn and Zucker Hillside in Long Island. Following my fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, I began my career in the Kaiser Permanente Behavioral Health Department and have been able to develop relationships with our members, providing the care they need. Active listening at its best!
I currently work to help individuals and families be their best as a psychiatrist in the Kaiser Permanente Behavioral Health Department. As a doctor specializing in treating children and adolescents, I have the pleasure of treating members of all ages, from young childhood to matured adulthood. My role is to constantly educate and assess, so as provide my best professional recommendation as it relates to the individual within their system (school, family, community, neighborhoods, etc.).
I thrive by watching our members get better and reach their goals through: building relationships with providers, collaboration between myself and members, empowering individuals and families to be active participants in their care, and addressing the biological, psychological, and social factors which impact symptoms and illnesses.
Being busy at work as a doctor, and at home as a wife and mother, it is important to remember to take care of my mind, body and spirit. Thus, finding balance between family and work is how I thrive. In addition to playing with my son, I enjoy traveling and vacationing, running and hiking with my husband, and going to the beach. And now that I am in Georgia, I enjoy anything that will allow getting together with family and old friends!
I love the sport of track and field and have competed and coached for several years. I must admit, however, it has been quite some time since I have run a good race! Nonetheless, through some extraordinary friendships, as well as my awesome family, I maintain an appropriate balance between my career and home life, as my friends and family keep me running more than I realize. This keeps my heart smiling and my mind at peace, allowing me to continue to thrive.
