I am an Atlanta native. I grew up in Decatur and enjoyed playing soccer in the YMCA league. As a well-rounded child, I also played the violin in the orchestra at the Westminster Schools. As a teenager, I knew that I wanted to help others, but my path was unclear. My family consists of those who found their callings in the church and on campuses. Fortunately, they have always supported me in believing that I too would find my calling. After college, I worked at a local autism center in an integrated classroom. There, I began to find that my passion was to work with children and their families. I realized that family support is a crucial part of the wellness of a child. My mission then became clear: I needed to become a psychiatrist. I stayed near home and attended Morehouse School of Medicine. After finishing my training, I worked in private practice and at a community mental health center. Moving meaningfully though these positions has led me to my current practice at Kaiser Permanente.
As a psychiatrist, I strive to combine therapy with medications. I have realized that a healthy diet and maintaining an active lifestyle are important in achieving the goals of mental health and wellness. I provide psychiatric care for children, adolescents and adults. When treating children and adolescents, I stress parental involvement, while trying to include the whole family in treatment decisions. I feel fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente with our excellent, comprehensive behavioral health team.
My wife is a family physician, and we were married one week before our graduations. She then moved to Atlanta, where we were blessed with a son and a daughter. We feel privileged to raise our family here. Together, we agree that finding balance in life is the key to happiness. Although both our jobs are relatively sedentary, we find that exercise is important in staying healthy in the mind and body. We enjoy family runs at Stone Mountain Park, hiking, playing card games and going to church. We also enjoy being an active family and have tried skiing and snow tubing, but we have decided that the beach will remain our vacation of choice! Since I had dreams of becoming a professional soccer-playing violinist, our children are involved in a variety of sports and take music lessons. They are a source of continuous laughter and fun, and we are looking forward to their adolescent years.
