Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in Stone Mountain, Ga., making me one of the few Georgia natives around! I left the South for the snowy Midwest for college before coming back home for graduate school at Georgia State University and medical school in Augusta, Ga. My love of the sciences coupled with the desire to interact with people on a personal level led me to my career choice in medicine. I decided to pursue nephrology as my father had kidney failure. He ended up on dialysis and later was fortunate enough to get a kidney transplant. The personal experience that I gained from this has been invaluable and gives me a unique perspective on how to help and treat people suffering from kidney failure.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
After finishing my nephrology training at Loyola University in Chicago, I stayed on as faculty in the transplant department. I later joined a private practice group in the Atlanta area so that I could be closer to my family. After more than five years in private practice, I decided to join Kaiser Permanente. The integrated, high-quality care found in academic institutions coupled with the patient-centered and personal approach often found in private practice are both found at Kaiser Permanente, and I believe this is the best way to practice medicine. I find that the key to preventing disease is prevention through a personalized approach that involves the physician, the patient and his or her family.
Cómo vivo bien
I thrive in a variety of ways, but mainly through exercise, travel and connections that I make with friends, family and people I meet through my work. I love to play tennis and surf (I try to hit the West Coast a few times a year for some waves), as I believe a healthy body gives you a healthy mind. I am also an avid traveler. I have visited over 40 countries, and every continent, except Antarctica and Australia (although I have been to New Zealand and I feel like it should count!). And lastly I love to drive around in my 1996 Jeep Cherokee when I can. It is my first car, the one that my dad got for me when I finished college. I still love it!
