About Me

I was born in Tokyo and moved to Hawaii a year later, as my parents hoped to provide a life of opportunity for me and my sister. They hoped that we would grow up bilingual and believed that Hawaii would provide a nurturing environment in which we could grow. Watching my parents turn their dreams for a life in America into a reality has inspired me to be determined and resilient in following my dreams of becoming an excellent physician. Without the love and support of my family, I would not be where I am today.

I did my undergraduate studies at the University of San Francisco and returned to Hawaii to earn my medical degree at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. I then completed my medical training with the Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program.

About my practice

Pursuing a career in medicine started off as a little girl’s dream — doctors were like superheroes that could cure sickness, and I was in absolute awe. Then, as I grew older, I became fascinated with learning about the human body and its intricate systems. This passion, combined with my love of people and my innate desire to help others, made it evident that becoming a physician was my life’s calling.

I chose internal medicine for my specialty because of the breadth of knowledge and attention to detail required in this field. It brings me confidence to know that I’m able to help others with a wide spectrum of concerns. I also love being able to take time to educate patients and empower them to take control of their own health. Furthermore, I love primary care, as it allows me to invest in my patients and create meaningful, lasting relationships.

To keep up with current medical research, I use online medical tools and attend conferences about new clinical insights and developments. In addition, my membership in the American College of Physicians gives me access to the most current medical information.

I believe in Kaiser Permanente’s innovative and integrated approach to patient care. Coordinating care among specialties and disciplines truly allows me to look after my patients in the right way. I can also confidently say that everything we do is evidence-based. Prevention is also at the forefront, which I feel is one of the most important things we can focus on to keep patients thriving. I’m so appreciative to be working alongside others who share these same values, and it makes work that much more enjoyable.

My philosophy of care includes building a strong and trusting relationship with my patients. I strive to give them the best care possible by getting to know them well and becoming a team that navigates through the complexities of medicine together. I want to create a warm and safe environment for my patients so they can trust I will always support them, especially through difficult times.

How I thrive

I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my husband and daughter. While we have unfortunately lost our lovable Boston Terrier, I’m always excited to share stories with others about our furry pets.

Dancing and watching hula, singing, finding good restaurants, eating delicious food, traveling, and learning about different cultures are also things I love.
