Overview
It may be difficult to urinate for a day or two after delivery. And you may urinate more than usual for days or weeks after delivery. Your body is getting rid of the extra fluid from pregnancy. You may also sweat heavily as you lose the extra fluid.
If you had an incision (episiotomy) or a tear in your vagina during childbirth, your bowel movements or urination may be painful. Try cleaning yourself with a gentle squeeze of warm water from a bottle instead of wiping with toilet paper. Soaking in a sitz bath may also help. You also may have constipation. Drink plenty of water, try to get exercise, and take stool softeners to help soften stools and ease pain.
