I grew up in Minnesota where I learned to snowboard, skateboard, and ride off-road motorcycles, which I try to continue doing to this day. After high school I moved to Colorado to get more time in the mountains. It is here that I met my wife, adopted my dog, and continued my medical training. Despite a short stint doing specialized training in psychiatry in Nebraska after medical school, I never plan to leave Colorado again. I think it is important to set yourself up for happiness, and the first step for me was finding out that Colorado is truly my home. I also believe you need to take care of your community, making working in and around my home even more fulfilling.
As far as my treatment philosophy, I try to keep things simple. I do my very best to provide every patient with the kind of care that I would want for myself or my family. I recognize that I am only one person, and that providing care with the help of my team allows me to bring in the expertise and experience needed for the best care. I also try to find out what is important to the patient so I can work with them to find treatment options that work for them as an individual. Although I am a general adult psychiatrist by training, I do have a special interest in caring for any group of people for which stigma around mental health and seeking treatment is still a difficult barrier to overcome. I typically see adults 18 years or older.
I thrive by keeping it simple. Working toward being a better version of myself everyday keeps me going throughout all of life's ups and downs. Whether that be taking on a new challenge at work, making sure I don't get too rusty at snowboarding, spending time in nature, having dinner with my wife, or playing with my dog, I always try to give it my best. Part of that is trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone. Always searching for something new to help me thrive is how I ultimately end up thriving.
