Dónde ejerzo mi práctica médica
Acerca de mí
I’ve been a pediatrician at Kaiser for nearly 30 years—mostly here in Escondido—and enjoy living and working in the same community.
I grew up in Tennessee and have known I wanted to be a pediatrician since high school. I came to Southern California after serving some time in the United States Navy, and I loved San Diego so much I knew I could never leave. I enjoy taking care of children, watching them grow, and interacting with the families. Now I’m even taking care of former patients' children because I have been here so long! My wife and I have raised five children—who are all grown and on their own.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I do all office-based pediatrics now, but I also have over 20 years of experience making overnight calls to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)—so I have had plenty of opportunity to take care of hospitalized premature infants, and have had the pleasure of seeing many NICU "graduates" after their hospitalization. I’ve been an instructor in pediatric advanced life support for over 15 years, and teach this subject to other physicians and nurses several times each year. I have students frequently in my office in training—generally nurse practitioner students—but have had medical students as well. I am board-certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2008, I received the Elisabeth Schilling Award for Compassionate Care. This award is given to one physician in the San Diego area, chosen by patients and their families. My Spanish is passable but not perfect. I have also received San Diego Magazine’s "Top Doc" award in 2012 and 2014 for pediatrics.
Cómo vivo bien
I stay well by lap-swimming four or five times per week, gardening, trying to eat my own homegrown produce, and trying (not always successfully) to stay away from cookies. I love to read. I have been obsessed with golf ever since my grandfather gave me clubs when I was 10, and I play and practice whenever I have the chance.
