Acerca de mí
Hello. I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you and share with you some information about my anesthesia practice here at Kaiser Permanente.
I have been in practice as a general anesthesiologist since 1991 and have a broad experience base. I joined the anesthesia staff full time at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower/Downey in 1999, and intend to stay here for the remainder of my career. I am a native Southern Californian and I come from a family of physicians. After my medical school training in New Orleans, I returned to California, attending a medicine internship with Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. I became a Kaiser Permanente member myself at that time, and since then have never left the organization as a patient. It was through my own excellent experience as a patient at Kaiser Permanente (as well as my family's experience) that I decided to join the staff as a physician. It is my goal to continue to provide the same outstanding care to my patients that I myself have always received. I trained in anesthesiology at UC Irvine, with a focus on critical care. Upon completing my residency, I joined the teaching staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for eight years. There is no greater opportunity to become an expert in a field than to teach it to others.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I have a background in trauma, cardiac, and neuro-anesthesia, invasive monitoring, and difficult airway management. While I am not usually involved in such intensive cases today, these skills allow me to provide the best possible care to all my patients, regardless of how healthy or ill they are, or how minor or major their surgery and anesthetic intervention will be. I am a firm believer in less is more, in the practice of anesthesia. By this I mean that if you don't need a general anesthetic, it is best not to have one. If you can have surgery under a local or a regional anesthetic with sedation to keep you more naturally asleep, and breathing on your own, this is preferable. I will always take the time to fully explain your anesthetic choices in as much or as little detail as you see fit, to give you the most personalized care I can provide, and to help you select the anesthetic best suited to your situation.
Cómo vivo bien
On a personal note, I stay balanced through work, family, physical and intellectual activity, and spiritual pursuits. If it involves the outdoors, I probably enjoy doing it. Bicycling, volleyball, swimming, skiing, tennis, hiking, camping, sailing, and scuba diving have all been passions of mine at one time or another. In the great indoors, I enjoy movies, handyman tinkering, woodworking, and model trains. I'm also a computer power user. In fact, I am one of our facility's champions in the deployment and upkeep of the anesthesia portion of our electronic medical records. Of course, the more time I can spend doing any of this with my son, the better. I hope to impart a bit of my zest for life to each of my patients during the brief time they are under my care.
