Acerca de mí
Welcome to my Web page!
I grew up and went to high school here in San Diego, then went east to college in Connecticut. I studied for four years at Wesleyan University—earning a bachelor’s degree in American studies with a minor in biology. I then moved to Boston and spent a year working in a lab as a research technologist at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. Next, I came back out west to attend the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Upon completion, I decided to go into surgery, and was selected as a surgical resident up in Seattle at the University of Washington. I trained for seven years there—five clinical years and two years as a research fellow. In the end, I decide to specialize in vascular surgery and came back to San Diego as a vascular surgical fellow at Scripps Green Hospital and UC San Diego. When I finished all my training, I took a job here at Kaiser Permanente as a vascular surgeon and have been here ever since. I’m married and have three amazing children, a beautiful and loving wife. We live up in the North County in Encinitas.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Vascular surgery is a specialty that focuses on treating problems in both the arterial and venous circulation. I work on blood vessels almost everywhere in the body except the heart and the brain. I have worked for Kaiser Permanente since 2001. I have a full-spectrum vascular surgical practice here at Kaiser Permanente. I perform open surgical procedures such as leg bypass, carotid (neck) artery surgery for stroke prevention, and aortic surgery. I also have experience in new less-invasive techniques for treating aneurysms in both the chest or thoracic aorta, and the abdominal aorta. I employ a new technique of ultrasound guided sclerotherapy for the treatment of symptomatic varicose veins and venous stasis disease. I also perform angiography and utilize minimally invasive techniques such as angioplasty and stent to improve circulation in both the arteries and veins. Finally, I perform surgeries to create access for kidney dialysis for members who are in kidney failure.
Cómo vivo bien
Though I have a busy clinical practice, I strive to achieve a balance in my life. I love spending time with my family. I’m a dedicated surfer, and surf with my two boys at least two to three times per week. It’s out in the water that I can truly clear my head and decompress from the day or week. I love the beach and the ocean and spend a lot of time there with my wife and kids. I enjoy music and try to make this a big part of my life as well. I play the guitar with a group of guys on a regular basis. My oldest son has also become a musician and guitar player, and we enjoy playing together. I feel lucky to live and practice here in Southern California.
