Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to introduce myself, and tell you about my practice. I have had the privilege to practice at several university hospitals in California, and feel very fortunate to serve as chief of the urology department at Kaiser Permanente’s Riverside Medical Center. My fellow physicians, many of whom are nationally recognized for their expertise, are among the best I have ever worked with.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and came to Northern California for my surgical training. I moved to Southern California in 1999, and I now call it my home, with my wife and two children.
My practice focuses on urologic oncology – cancers of the urinary tract. My specialty is surgical treatment of urologic cancers such as prostate, bladder, testicular, or kidney cancer. My department works closely with the departments of radiation oncology and medical oncology to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment. This means that I work closely with specialists in non-surgical treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy to help determine what treatment or combination of treatments might be best for each individual patient. My team includes several nurse specialists who assist in providing the best possible care for each member, through every phase of their treatment. We feel that member education is vital to good health, whether it be in preparing for surgery, or in counseling patients on proper diet and nutrition. We are committed to providing patients compassionate and personal care.
I have always been a strong believer in the philosophy of total health, and try to live it in my life every day. Family life and staying active are big priorities for me. I feel very blessed to have a wonderful, supportive wife, and two healthy teenage boys. While we spend most of our vacation time in the summer visiting our extended families in the Midwest and back East, we try to find time every winter to get out and ski or snowboard. I strive to exercise regularly during the week, and in recent years, have begun competing in triathlons. I spent many years coaching my sons' Little League baseball and youth basketball teams. Now that my sons are older, I get to coach WITH THEM in our community youth leagues – and what a pleasure that has been! Having been born and raised in Philadelphia, my heart is with my Philadelphia sports teams, and I remain a diehard Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and 76'ers fan.
