Acerca de mí
Welcome to my Web page. Good genes are the best protectors against disease. Unfortunately, we are not able to choose our ancestors! However, we can all still work to prevent illness through healthy living, and we all need to take responsibility for our own health and wellness. I aim to be an effective partner in your quest for better health by being a good listener, a good diagnostician, and a skilled obstetrician and surgeon.
I grew up in New York, the son of two teachers. I knew I wanted to be a physician from about the age of eight. I attended Cornell University Medical College, and later moved to San Diego to complete my medical training. I am the proud father of four grown children and enjoy swimming, yoga, tennis, and art. I do pyrography (a form of art that involves burning wood) in my spare time.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
In the specialty of obstetrics, I feel that we facilitate a natural process in our work. With so many tests and potential anxieties related to seeing the doctor, I try to keep things as light and fun as possible. In gynecology, I believe that surgery is usually the last option to consider because of the risks, although it ends up being the best option in many cases. I want people to be at least open to trying nonsurgical options first and have a healthy respect for the risks involved in surgery.
Cómo vivo bien
Like many in the medical profession, I used to be a smoker. I successfully quit years ago and have felt much healthier since then. I stay thin by limiting portion sizes and avoiding empty calories. I try to stay flexible by doing my own version of yoga combined with Pilates. I have to be careful with some forms of cardiovascular exercise because I'm prone to joint aches and pains when I do too much high-impact cardio, so I get most of my cardio by swimming, which is lower impact, and by playing doubles tennis, which is a bit easier on the joints than singles. And I try to do everything in moderation.
