Welcome, and thank you for visiting my Web page! I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself, and look forward to meeting you in my office at the Kaiser Eye Clinic at Los Angeles Medical Center.
I am originally from Germany, and received my training in Germany, England, and the United States. For my undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, I majored in biochemistry, and stayed on at Cambridge to earn a Ph.D. in cancer research. While doing my doctorate training, I decided I wanted to become more directly involved in treating patients, so I enrolled in medical school at the University of Oxford. In 2003, after nine years in England, I came to the United States. I have lived in the Midwest, and on both the East Coast and West Coast. For my residency training in ophthalmology, I studied at the Eye Hospital of Harvard Medical School, and then did additional training in ocular oncology at University of California, San Francisco, and in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at the University of Minnesota. In 2011, I joined Kaiser’s Sunset Eye Clinic at the Los Angeles Medical Center.
My specialty is oculoplastic and orbital surgery, which is plastic and reconstructive surgery for the tissues around the eye. This includes the eyelids, the tear drainage system, and the eye socket. Plastic surgery is not the same as cosmetic surgery. I do not perform any cosmetic procedures. All the surgeries I do are intended to treat medical conditions such as drooping eyelids that affect vision, skin cancer on the eyelids, blockage of the tear drainage system, injury to the eyelids or the bones of the eye socket, and cancer in the eye socket.
I enjoy travelling and take every opportunity to visit family and friends in the US and abroad. This helps me to refuel and stay energized.
