I was born in eastern India and lived in various places during childhood with a large family that included six brothers and two sisters. My family members were very close, and I was fortunate to receive love and encouragement from all of them.I was educated in India and earned my medical degree at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College & Hospital in Gaya, India. I did my internal medicine internship at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and my internal medicine residency at Forest Hills Hospital. My wife and I had visited Hawaii and fell in love with the warm hospitality and the aloha spirit of the people here. It became our dream to make Hawaii our permanent home.
Medicine has always been my sole career choice, in large part because of the influence of my older brother, who’s also a physician. I was fascinated by the art of healing, and I wanted to experience the personal satisfaction of being able to contribute to society in this way.
I keep up-to-date by reading professional journals and articles, conferring with other physicians on unusual cases, and participating in continuing medical education programs. I’m also a member of the American College of Physicians, a professional and educational organization that provides members with the latest developments in medicine.
I’d heard very positive things about the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) before coming to Hawaii. The care delivery model used here is similar to the model I’d been working with on the mainland, so I was very comfortable becoming a part of this well-regarded group practice. I feel fortunate to be a part of HPMG.
It’s critical to listen to what patients have to say about their health, as they can often sense when something is wrong. Also, they feel supported and cared for when someone listens to their personal experiences and the challenges they face in their lives.
Keeping balance in life is very important. While I take my work seriously, I also find great value in spending time with family, friends, and loved ones. I exercise regularly, practice meditation, and participate in outdoor activities. I enjoy traveling, going to restaurants and movies, and pursuing other hobbies.
