About Me

I was born in Singapore and moved to Oahu to attend the St. Louis School. After graduating from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, I moved to the U.S. East Coast to complete medical school and my residency, and to establish a private practice. My wife and I decided to return home to Hawaii after the birth of our first child. With the support of my wonderful wife, who is also a physician, I completed a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship. We have two gorgeous children who are the joys of our lives.

About my practice

I come from a family of physicians who always seemed happy with their work and career choice. When I volunteered at a hospital in college and saw the difference a physician could make in a patient's life, the decision to apply to med school was easy. I was drawn to obstetrics and gynecology as a specialty because it gave me the opportunity to deliver babies, perform surgery and be a primary care provider. I was interested in obstetrical ultrasound, and found there is something special about the look of wonder on a mother's face when she views her baby on an ultrasound screen. The challenge of making difficult prenatal diagnoses and of taking care of high-risk pregnancies always appealed to me and eventually drew me into the subspecialty of maternal fetal medicine. In my subspecialty, we often need to enlist the expertise of neonatologists, interventional radiologists or intensivists. One of the reasons I chose to work for Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is because our Moanalua Medical Center and Clinic is the only facility in the state that has all these subspecialties immediately available under one roof. My philosophy of care is to practice evidence-based medicine in a patient-centered environment. From a maternal fetal standpoint, it is extremely rewarding to help a mother with a high-risk fetus or medical condition through her pregnancy and delivery. To stay up-to-date with current research, I review Obstetrics and Gynecology and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology every month. The updates I receive from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) make for interesting reading. Additionally, the members of our division attend the yearly SMFM or American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine meetings. I also hold a Master of Science in Clinical Research, and am affiliated with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

How I thrive

I enjoy doing DVD workouts that involve high-intensity interval training. I am also a golf enthusiast and particularly relish the time I spend with my children at the golf course or range. I also enjoy grilling, spending time with my family and following my beloved Manchester United football team.
