About Me

Thank you for visiting this Web page to learn more about me. I am an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery. My philosophy is that you and I can work together to determine the best treatment for the condition(s) that are bothering you and affecting the use of your hands and arms.

Biography

I was born and raised near Washington, DC, and moved to southwestern Pennsylvania to attend Villanova University for a degree in biology. This was followed by a move back to DC for medical school training at Georgetown University. My college and graduate studies were funded by the United States Navy, so I spent the next several years in San Diego training as a surgery intern and serving as a medical officer in the Navy. I then trained in orthopedic surgery for the next 4 years at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, followed by a hand surgery fellowship year at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. I returned to San Diego, where my Naval service continued for the next 11 years, and I served as the chief orthopedic hand surgeon at the Naval Medical Center, at which point I retired from the military with 22 years of service that I thoroughly enjoyed and was honored to provide. Upon retirement in 2016, I was fortunate enough to join Kaiser Permanente’s Orthopedic Surgery Department.

About my practice

My practice primarily involves surgery of the hands, wrists, forearms, and elbows. The intricate and delicate anatomy of the hands and arms has always fascinated me, and this helps motivate me to perform the right surgery for the many conditions that develop during the course of members’ lives. I stay active in professional organizations that ensure I remain up to date on modern techniques of surgery as well as proficient with procedures varying from carpal tunnel release and trigger finger releases to tendon, nerve, and fracture repairs. I am proud to have a team working with me that includes therapists, nurses, physician assistants, and medical assistants, all of whom have your best interests at heart and will work to help you achieve your best possible outcome.

How I thrive

I lead a healthy life thanks to the close interactions I have with family and with the friends that I have made over the years in San Diego. I also enjoy getting to know the individual stories behind the members who come my way every day. I have a passion for coaching youth sports, so this takes up most of my time outside the office.
