About Me

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, before moving to Arizona for high school. My parents were always encouraging and supportive. My father was a policeman, an everyday hero who put himself in harm's way to protect and serve the people of his community. My mother was a registered nurse who worked the night shift for years, so that she could look after her daughters during the day. Their examples taught me that service to others is the most rewarding path and that a parent can have a meaningful professional life while also raising a family. I earned my medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and completed my residency in family medicine at Methodist Hospital of Dallas/Charlton Methodist Hospital. After vacationing in Hawaii several times and having my wedding here, I finally had the opportunity to call Kauai home and jumped at the chance. I’ve been very happy to raise my two children on this beautiful island.

About my practice

I was attracted to the medical field because of the academic challenges and the opportunity to help others. I chose family medicine as my specialty because I love forming long-lasting relationships with patients and their families based on mutual respect. During my residency, I presented original research on screening for domestic violence in a clinical setting at a conference of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. I’m a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians. To keep up-to-date in my field, I read professional journals and participate in continuing medical education courses. I decided to join the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because its values and practices reflect my own. I think it’s important to promote disease prevention and preventive health, and strive to deliver high-quality care. In my opinion, one of the best things we physicians can do for our patients is to teach them how to best care for themselves.

How I thrive

In order to stay in shape both mentally and physically, I go for hikes when I can. I also practice yoga, meditation, and taiko drumming. I devote a large part of my free time volunteering at my children’s schools and attending their games and practices, science fairs, and robotics workshops.
