About Me

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in beautiful Kaneohe. I am a graduate of Saint Louis High School and after completing my medical training on the Mainland, returned to work in Hawaii. Many of my family members are in the medical field. My uncle was one of the first pediatricians to practice in Kaneohe and my brother Lester Yim is an internist.

About my practice

I chose to pursue a career in medicine because I enjoy working with children of all ages and their families. I find that children from newborns to young adults keep me young at heart. My extensive training in medical genetics has also allowed me to care for more complex patients. The innovations in technology and growing body of knowledge in genetics have given me the opportunity to provide increasingly personalized care to my patients. I strongly believe in the power of collaboration. I enjoy working with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because of its emphasis on teamwork. Many providers can be involved in a single members care and we are able to coordinate effortlessly with specialists and subspecialists. We are fortunate to have colleagues in other regions of Kaiser Permanente as great resources as well. By using electronic medical records, we are not only improving our technology but also exploring ways to keep our physicians up-to-date on current medical knowledge, which is very exciting. My philosophy is to work together with the family to provide the best care possible for my patient. My role as the physician is to encourage prevention, listen to concerns, support their decisions, as well as be an educator and guide their care. I am honored to be a mentor to future health care providers who are also my patients and I love hearing about their successes, especially when it comes to their education and futures.

How I thrive

I exercise by walking for about an hour daily, but when I have time, I push myself and go for five miles straight. I enjoy eating healthy, listening to music and spending time with family. Traveling is also one of my favorite things to do.
