About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I’m elated to have this opportunity to share with you a part of who I am, and give you information regarding my practice as a family physician. I’m also the chief of the Family Medicine Department at the Fontana Medical Center.

Biography

I’m the youngest member of my family. As a small child, I was influenced to become a physician by watching a hospital-based soap opera in the 1960s. Helping others was an important part of my upbringing, and I felt I could do that as a physician. I must admit I had some doubts in the beginning—no one on that show looked like me. At the time, there was not much cultural diversity in the depictions of physicians on television, and there were no female or African-American physician characters. My mother was influential in helping me pursue my dream by making sure I knew that if I could dream it, I could achieve it. I’ve been a physician for 26 years. I completed my family medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center in 1990. Upon graduation, I began my practice at a new Kaiser Permanente clinic in Rancho Cucamonga—the Laurel Medical Offices. Due to the rapidly expanding community, we quickly outgrew our five-physician office and built a brand new 30-physician facility.

About my practice

I love being a family physician—I’m sometimes able to care for multiple members, and multiple generations, of the same family. I’ve delivered over 400 babies in my career, many of whom I continue to see. I'm even taking care of their kids now! I stopped delivering babies a few years ago. For some reason, all the kids wanted to make their grand entrance at two in the morning! My practice is divided between my member care responsibilities and my administrative duties. I’m usually in the office four or five half-days per week. It’s a true honor and privilege to have a job I love so much.

How I thrive

Staying balanced is important and involves taking care of your body, mind, and spirit! I do this by relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Cancun every year, and enjoying the company of friends and family. In addition, I’m passionate about singing gospel music. After all, music is medicine for the soul!
