About Me

I was born and raised in Pearl City, Hawaii. I am the youngest of three children--my brother is a physical therapist and my sister is a nurse. Both have been amazing role models for me and have inspired me to also pursue a career in medicine.

About my practice

I enjoy how dynamic the field of medicine is, with new technologies and therapies seeming to arise almost daily. But more than anything else, I love working with and helping people. I find nothing more rewarding than setting someone's mind at ease and enabling them to feel healthy again. What attracts me to the field of dermatology is its variety. In addition to having an opportunity to care for patients of all ages, I take care of skin infections, chronic rashes, and skin cancers, among many other skin conditions. I also like that I am able to develop long-term relationships with many of my patients, whether through annual skin cancer checks or periodic treatment of chronic skin conditions. My philosophy is to provide safe, evidence-based, compassionate care. I find I have something in common with all patients. It is seeking that common ground that is the foundation of our therapeutic relationship because it helps build trust.I take great pride and honor in being part of a group of physicians and care providers at HPMG whose passion is excellent care. I am so proud of the contributions in volunteer work and innovation that many of our physicians dedicate their lives to.In recent years, I have published articles in the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, Archives of Dermatology, the European Journal of Dermatology, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and Archives of Otolaryngology. I have presented at the American Academy of Dermatology’s Gross and Microscopic conference, and on Rothmund Thomson Syndrome for the American Society of Pediatric Dermatology.I am board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, an ambassador fellow at HPMG, and a member of the Hawaii Dermatology Society and the International Society of Dermatopathology.

How I thrive

I love being active. Whether surfing, swimming, paddling, hiking, or running, I like to keep moving. I know life is a balance and I also enjoy working in the yard and walking on the beach with my wife and dog. I love taking on new challenges and my recent endeavor has been a little bit of woodworking, though I have gotten more splinters than completed projects. My wife is avidly into yoga and I have found that it helps to keep me centered.
