About Me

I was born in the Philippines and grew up in Los Angeles, where I completed my medical training. I moved to Connecticut and lived there for seven years before I decided the warm tropical weather and beautiful surroundings of Maui were too enticing to resist. I now call the islands my home and live with my domestic partner of over 12 years. We have a loving Miniature Schnauzer, Otto. The majority of my family still resides in California, including my father who, to this day, continues to live in my childhood home.

About my practice

Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a doctor because I was fascinated with the world of medicine. As a family medicine physician, I find it extremely rewarding to use my skills and knowledge towards helping people live healthier lives. Family medicine enables me to provide a wide array of patient care that crosses a number of specialties. I also find it exciting to encounter various patient symptoms and diagnoses. I believe that living a healthy and active lifestyle is critical for optimal well-being. Eating a whole food, mostly plant-based diet and exercising daily are the keys to prevention of disease. My job is to educate my patients. I enjoy establishing relationships with them over generations while tracking their progress. I approach my patients as their guide and partner to assist with their health care needs. I like helping them navigate through the tools that Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has available, but I emphasize that my patients must be active in their own care. I also have an interest in caring for patients in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community. I am currently working on the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group’s professional development team which includes communication coursework and mentoring. I am also the family medicine physician leader for the Maui Lani clinic and am helping with the formulation of optimal workflows for better control and monitoring of scheduled medications relevant to pain management on Maui.

How I thrive

I maintain my physical health by eating wholesome, nutritious foods and getting an adequate amount of sleep. I also exercise daily by doing cardiovascular routines and weightlifting. I believe in balancing hard work with relaxation, and enjoy going to the beach and traveling to off- island destinations.
