About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Web page! I came to Kaiser Permanente in 2002 from private practice. I chose to move to Kaiser Permanente to have more time with my family and taking care of my members, and less time on administrative tasks. I was honored to be voted one of San Diego's top docs in 2014 in San Diego Magazine.

Biography

I’m from the East Coast and came to San Diego to do my obstetrics/gynecology training at the Naval Medical Center San Diego on a health professions scholarship. I was named outstanding resident in my medical residency group. I fell in love with San Diego and have now lived here for over 20 years! As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a physician. I grew up in a large family with four sisters—all of whom became nurses! During my medical training, I fell in love with obstetrics/gynecology—and obstetrics in particular. I was lucky enough to be accepted for a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at UC San Diego, and now spend all my time practicing high-risk obstetrics—which involves taking care of women and fetuses with medical or surgical problems. I coauthored an important article on fetal movement assessment as a means of preventing fetal loss. I am board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both maternal-fetal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology.

About my practice

My fellow perinatologists and I are fortunate to work with a dedicated team of neonatologists, genetic counselors, perinatal case managers, a perinatal nurse-midwife, and nursing staff. I spend most of my time in the clinic at our San Diego Medical Center seeing obstetrics members. On any given day, I see members for whom I’m the sole care provider, and others who I see in consultation with general Ob/Gyn practitioners or doctors from other disciplines. I’m a skilled perinatal ultrasonographer and spend time performing ultrasounds in both the Radiology Department and the clinic for prenatal diagnosis. Working with the team mentioned above, I provide our members and their families with information regarding the medical problem at hand, and propose a treatment plan that will include prenatal care and delivery. I love delivering babies! What I love most about my job is interacting with my members—I get to know them over nine months.

How I thrive

I spend most of my free time with my family. I have a wonderful husband, three great adult children, and two Great Pyrenees rescue dogs. Needless to say, they keep me very busy. When I do have a free moment, my hobbies include reading, gardening, and outdoor sports. I love to swim, jog, and ski. I’m very fortunate to be doing something I love in one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. I made lifelong friends during my training in San Diego, and I have a very supportive family back east. All of these people help keep me grounded and help me get through the inevitable tough times. My job is 90 percent happy, but there’s a 10-percent difficulty factor—and that's where my loved ones come in!
