About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente because I can practice pediatric urology in an environment where I can totally focus on patient care without the many business distractions of running a private practice. I look forward to working with you and helping with the health care needs of your child.

Biography

I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was greatly influenced to become a doctor by my father who was a urologist. I went to college and medical school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. My urology training included a fellowship in pediatric urology in Liverpool, England, and two sabbaticals at the Hospital for Sick Children in London. I have been married for 25 years and have four children and two grandchildren. I enjoy being with my family, teaching pediatric urology to the residents, reading, keeping fit, traveling, playing golf with friends, and going to movies.

About my practice

I joined the Urology Department here in 1980. I am the regional pediatric urologist and accept referrals from all the Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Southern California. Pediatric urology is a subspecialty that involves the plastic and reconstructive surgery of birth defects of the urinary and genital system in boys and girls. It also involves treating functional problems and infections of the genitourinary system (the reproductive organs and urinary system). Our team includes a urology resident, a nurse practitioner, an office nurse who specializes in pediatric urology, and a team of pediatrics-oriented anesthesiologists and operating room nurses. I feel very honored that parents have entrusted me with the care of their children and I strive to treat my patients as I would my own family.

How I thrive

I try to thrive by keeping a full but balanced life. Fortunately for me, I love my profession of pediatric urology and I appreciate the wonderful support from my colleagues at Kaiser Permanente. I'm also fortunate that I do not have the stress of running a business so I can focus on the needs of my patients. I try to eat healthy foods and work out at the gym on a regular basis. I try to minimize stress by focusing on things that I enjoy doing, keeping a perspective and reminding myself of the wonderful privilege I have of being able to help children with their health-related problems.
