About Me

I was born and raised in Chico, California. I attended the University of Hawaii residency program in internal medicine and subsequently joined the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG).

About my practice

I decided to go into medicine after a personal experience with family illness. Because I enjoy diagnostic dilemmas, challenges, and a fast-paced environment, pulmonary and critical care medicine a natural choice of specialty for me. Studies on genetic and cell activity and cell properties that I have coauthored appear in the professional publications BMC Immunology, Physiological Genomics, Blood (the Journal of the American Society of Hematology), and Cytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry. To stay abreast of significant new studies in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine, I turn to several major journals that highlight relevant and important material drawn from the wealth of medical information available. The collegiality among our physicians is outstanding. My goal is to provide excellent care for our patients and to continuously seek improvement to our current practice of medicine. As a physician in pulmonary and critical care medicine, I am not able to directly communicate with most of my patients because of the severity of their illnesses. As appropriate, I try to ascertain the family’s wishes and needs for information and reassurance regarding their loved one’s condition. I keep in mind the patient’s best interests as I make decisions regarding their care.

How I thrive

In my leisure time I unwind and try to stay healthy mentally and physically by doing yoga and spending time with family and friends.
