I was born and raised in the coastal town of Astoria, Oregon. My husband and I moved to Maui from the Pacific Northwest so we could enjoy the outdoor activities that we love year-round. We were also drawn to Hawaii’s natural beauty and rich cultural diversity.Our grown children – two sons and one daughter – live in Oregon, New Mexico and New York. We are fortunate to be able to host family members from the Mainland quite often. Our small dog is also an important family member and always keeps us entertained!
I chose medicine for a career because I enjoy working with people and helping them with their health concerns. Urgent care is very satisfying, as a patient’s pain or illness can often be readily addressed and treated. As a member of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG), I enjoy the team approach we take to caring for our members. I find my interactions with specialists and other primary care providers to be very helpful – the patient is always our top priority. I also appreciate the support HPMG offers to me and my colleagues, and its commitment to continued excellence and innovation.My philosophy for wellness is that “less is more.” It doesn't cost anything to take a walk or turn off the television. Avoidance of tobacco and moderation with alcohol, fast food, and television and video game time can all result in better health for individuals and families. I welcome members to use the convenience of after-hours care when they have problem that can’t wait until tomorrow. I see the practice of medicine as an important partnership between the patient and doctor, and believe we each have a role in maintaining health and wellness.
I love the outdoors and get my exercise by walking on the beach or stand-up paddling as often as I can. For general peace and quiet, I spend time reading and writing, or relaxing with friends or family.I also look forward to exploring new places and trying new restaurants. I love to sit in our sun room with a good book or to concoct a meal in the kitchen with my husband. We enjoy experimenting with new healthy recipes and sharing them with friends.
