I was born in Denver and lived here until I was 14, when my family moved to Canada. I returned to Colorado after completing my residency training in Chicago. I can't remember a time when I did not want to be a physician. I have always been interested in how the human body works and the language between health care providers. As an emergency medicine physician, I have found it interesting and challenging to try and figure out what is causing a patient's symptoms quickly and to provide compassionate, thorough care.
I chose the practice of emergency medicine for multiple reasons. I find that when I have a wide variety of patients and problems I am more engaged and interested versus always taking care of one specific body system or area. I also love the fast pace and never knowing what problem is going to enter the ER next. I listen and seek to understand my patients’ questions and concerns. I work with my patients to make treatment plans that meet their needs, and coordinate their care with our specialists, pharmacists and others. Electronic medical records help me to see the big picture of a patient’s health, so I can make good use of our time together and answer my patient’s questions.
I thrive by spending time with family and friends. I have a wonderful husband and a daughter who always amazes me with her sense of adventure. I take time for myself a few days a week and practice yoga.
