About Me

I’m glad to have the opportunity to present my credentials to you and share other information about myself. It’s very important that you feel comfortable with your personal physician, and I hope this page will help you start to get to know me.

Biography

My family moved here from Pennsylvania in 1951. My father started work at Kaiser Steel, and I have been a member of the Kaiser Permanente health care system since then. I’m married. I have a wonderful wife and great kids and grandchildren. I chose the specialty of family medicine because it’s the only area of medicine where I can care for people at every stage of life, from newborns to people progressing into their later years. Each age has its unique qualities and challenges.

About my practice

I feel that healthy living and preventive care are the best ways to stay healthy, but I am also here to help you when you are sick. I want to be your partner in health, and it helps me better care for you when you are actively involved in taking care of your health. I sometimes use the analogy that the patient is the captain of the ship, and I’m the navigator. I can recommend the course, but the captain has the ultimate decision regarding the course to take.

How I thrive

In my late 40s, I was overweight and in poor condition. One of my patients who was in his 70s encouraged me to start hiking. Since then, my wife and I have enjoyed getting out and walking. I set a goal of climbing Mount Whitney before age 50. I missed it that year due to poor trail conditions, but I’ve reached the summit multiple times since then. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. I get great inspiration from my patients, including the hikers in their 70s, the 80-year-old who participated in the Senior Olympics, the marathoners and cyclists of all ages, and the patients who do water aerobics or chair exercises. I admire all of my patients who try to participate in some form of physical activity.
