About Me

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was fortunate to grow up in this beautiful place. I left the islands to go to the State University of New York at Downstate College of Medicine for my medical degree and to do my internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Although I enjoyed living on the mainland, I was happy to return home to live and have the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the people in the community where I grew up.

About my practice

I decided to pursue a career in medicine because it allows me to be of service to others. Being able to help people in times of their greatest needs is the most rewarding experience I could have hoped for. It’s truly an honor to be entrusted with the care of patients and their families. I was drawn to hospital medicine as a specialty because it combines personal interaction with the intellectual challenge of investigating complex medical conditions that sometimes involve several different organ systems.

To keep up-to-date with current medical research, I read professional journal articles, participate in continuing medical education programs, and attend local and national medical conferences.

At a meeting of the Society of Hospital Medicine, I gave a presentation on the effect of preoperative anemia on blood transfusion requirements in joint replacement surgery. I also spoke about the fungal infection known as valley fever at a regional meeting of the American College of Physicians.

It’s a pleasure to be part of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. Everyone at Kaiser Permanente is helpful and welcoming, which makes for an excellent support system and an ideal place to practice medicine.

It’s a great privilege to be allowed to work as a physician. Each and every patient should be treated with the respect that we’d want for ourselves and our own loved ones. Spending time talking to my patients and their families are some of my favorite parts of patient care.

How I thrive

In my spare time away from work I relax and unwind by practicing yoga and spending quality time with family and friends.
