I was born and raised in a fishing village in Hong Kong. My mother brought me to Hawaii when I was 12 years old in hopes of providing me a better life. Many in my family have been sick. My father died of lung cancer. It is a privilege to have the opportunity help patients and their families, to share the kindness that was shown to my own family. After obtaining my medical degree from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, I completed an internal medicine residency and a geriatric medicine fellowship. I was also selected for the Office of Medical Education Fellowship in medical education and administration. I am board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine.
The strength and love my family taught me when they were sick inspired me to become a medical doctor. Internal medicine has allowed me to care for people in all walks of life with a variety of medical conditions. My additional training allows me to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams on critical cases and in complex social situations. I am a member of American College of Physicians. I also volunteer as an assistant clinical professor for the Department of Geriatric Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, where I am active in staff and student education. In addition to English, I am fluent in Cantonese. I also have basic conversational skill in Japanese. I support Meals on Wheels, Children International, the Red Cross, Easter Seals, and other charity organizations. I want to share the kindness that was so generously shown to me, especially when I was a young immigrant. To me the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is like a warm ohana, where people work as a team to help each other grow and to ensure the best care for our patients. My philosophy is to treat my patients as I would like my own family to be treated. My patients teach me a lot in the life stories they share. I want to be there during their more difficult times to offer the best treatment available and to share kindness and hope.
I love to take walks and sing. I enjoy cooking a variety of dishes for my family.
