About Me

I was born in Vietnam and grew up in Northern California. I am fluent in both English and Vietnamese.

About my practice

I love that the art of practicing medicine requires a special combination of creativity, ingenuity, and scholastics. Answers are not always obvious in medicine and they require creative solutions, which is a challenge I enjoy every day as a pediatric hospitalist. It is humbling to be able to provide care for my patients and their families in their time of need, and it is truly a privilege to make a difference in their lives. Part of my care philosophy is that a patient should be considered a member of their medical care team. I think it is very important to involve patients and their families in their care and medical decision-making because it helps them to become better advocates for their health care and helps to build trust in the medical system. This is why I value “Patient Family Centered Care (PFCC) rounds” so much. PFCC rounds are when the medical team (myself, registered nurse, charge nurse, dietician, care coordinator, and child life specialist) meet at the patient’s bedside to discuss care plans. Patients and family members can listen and contribute to the plan of care for the day. PFCC rounds provide premium opportunities for learning and teaching, and are the best ways to keep communication lines open among all members of the team. Overall, this helps to improve the quality of patient care. One of the things that attracted me to the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is the dedication and lifelong commitment its physicians share to making positive changes. My colleagues are wonderful and supportive, and I love to practice in an environment that helps us all to succeed at our jobs.

How I thrive

I believe it is very important to have balance in your life. Aside from being a pediatrician, I am also a wife and mother, and juggling family and career needs can be difficult. So, outside of work, I am an avid surfer and enjoy swimming and jogging, which all help me to stay physically fit. These outlets also keep me mentally healthy because they allow me to release tension and stress. I also enjoy photography and exercising my creative and crafting skills, particularly through sewing and silk screening.
