About Me

Thanks for taking this opportunity to learn more about me and our practice.

Biography

I was raised and educated on the East Coast. Prior to my ophthalmology training, I did an internship in the department of pediatrics at the University of Rochester. I moved to California and joined Kaiser Permanente after completing my military service, where I was chief of ophthalmology at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

About my practice

The ophthalmology service at Kaiser Permanente San Diego is a large department that covers comprehensive ophthalmology as well as all of the ophthalmology subspecialties. My subspecialty is pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, which involves the care of pediatric eye problems as well as ocular motility and alignment disorders in adults. Our practice is enhanced by two optometrists with extensive pediatric experience working in offices adjacent to us, as well as a fully trained orthoptist (eye therapist).

How I thrive

My medical education was the University of Rochester School of Medicine, an institution that emphasized the mind-body relationship in both illness and health long before it was fashionable. I have always been mindful of the need for balance in both in my own life and that of my patients. Although the practice of medicine has always been more a way of life for me rather than simply an occupation, I also enjoy philately (stamp collecting), gardening (especially orchids and bromeliads), studying American history, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family.
