I have over 18 years of medical experience. I earned my undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and then attended medical school at the University of Chicago. I trained in internal medicine at the University of Iowa, and completed my fellowship in hematology and oncology at Indiana University. I joined the faculty of the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City in 1999 as a researcher, educator, and practicing oncologist. In 2014, I joined Hawaii Permanente Medical Group and moved to the beautiful island of Maui. I'm excited to be part of a physician group that believes in excellence in patient care, and I feel privileged to be part of the Maui community and to care for the people living here.
I enjoy both the science and art of medicine, and I particularly love working with cancer patients. I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Gynecological Oncology Group, and the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. I am also active in SHARE, a support group for patients with breast and ovarian cancer. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including a paper on breast cancer in Asians, which appeared in the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, and a paper on returning to work after breast cancer treatment, which was published in the Journal of Community Health. I have presented papers on similar topics at the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. My research also includes a study of heart failure as a complication of cancer therapy. To stay up-to-date in my field, I attend national conferences and read oncology journals. It’s a pleasure to work among the excellent physicians who make up the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. Their dedication to delivering high quality, personalized care to patients is truly an inspiration. A diagnosis of cancer is often the most difficult thing a person must deal with in life. My goal is to listen to whatever my patients have to say and strive to support them throughout their illness.
To stay fit and to reduce stress, I practice yoga. I am an avid reader, I enjoy music and theater, and I take great pleasure in walking my dog. Being out in nature is also healing for me. My favorite outdoor activities include hiking, biking, and bird watching.
