About Me

I graduated from medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle, and then trained in psychiatry at the University of California in San Francisco. Before joining Northwest Permanente in 2004, I worked at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco for eight years. I studied history and Spanish in college, and decided to go to medical school after volunteering at an AIDS prevention organization. Much of my early career was devoted to serving HIV patients and Spanish-speaking immigrant populations.

About my practice

My clinical work at Kaiser Permanente is in Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program. I really enjoy working with a team of mental health experts, including therapists and nurses, and providing holistic care to our patients. Although much of my work involves prescribing medication, I think that nutrition, exercise, relaxation training, and therapy are even more important in treating depression and anxiety. I also think that we cannot separate the treatment of mental health and physical health, especially conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

How I thrive

I like to spend time outdoors with family and friends. I am very interested in the Spanish language and in the cultures of Spanish speaking countries. But my greatest passion is for dogs!
