My family roots are Midwestern. I lived in Kansas, Missouri, and California (southern beaches and the San Francisco Bay Area) prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest 20 years ago. My husband, who is also a physician, is a Pacific Northwest native, and this is where we wanted to raise a family. We have two sons and a daughter, currently in three different schools. I traveled extensively (5 continents) and worked more strange jobs than I care to remember as a young adult, before settling down to study medicine. I have always been interested in women's health care issues. I have never regretted my decision to specialize in Ob/Gyn. It has, and still feels like, my intellectual and spiritual calling.
I have worked 17+ years in general Ob/Gyn practice with Kaiser Permanente. General practice includes a balance of days in clinic, gynecological surgery and labor and delivery obstetrics call. I started at the Cascade Park Medical Office, then moved to the Beaverton Medical Office. In 2012 I began an adventurous (temporary) job change by working primarily nights serving our Kaiser Permanente patients on labor and delivery at St. Vincent hospital. I enjoy and value all components of general practice. I am anticipating a happy return to general Ob/Gyn practice, likely in early 2013, and am looking forward to eventually being based full time at our new Kaiser Permanente West Side Medical Center (opening in August 2013).
Like most of my patients, I juggle the responsibilities of self, children, marriage, work and community (local and global). As a working mother of three I "strive to thrive". I attempt to exercise four times a week, go to the library twice a month, and make up a recipe once a month. I am very active in my children's activities (Battle of the Books, football, band activities, etc.) I was an avid traveler in previous years and now I enjoy some gardening, our cats, and projects in sewing/textile art. I would like to share a personal responsibility self help message that keeps me on a "thrive-track": What we are not changing, we are choosing.
