Acerca de mí
I am a board certified anesthesiologist, with 20 years of anesthesia practice experience. I trained at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) , and have remained in Oregon since residency. I have practiced in solo and group practices from Baker to Dallas, and Roseburg to Portland. I spend my non-clinical time volunteering for non-profit groups such as Salem Keizer Education Foundation, Marion Polk Food Share and American Lung Association of Oregon. I also hold office in medical associations such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Oregon Society of Anesthesiologists, Oregon Medical Association and Marion Polk County Medical Society, where I am past President. My hobbies include backpacking and photography.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I believe in educating my patients about how their existing health will impact the choice of anesthetics I offer them. We are the primary doctor for our patient's surgical experience: we take care of the entire patient, including diabetes, heart rhythm, and even postoperative bed selection for complicated patients while the surgeon operates. I treat each patient as if they were a member of my family. I try to choose language that will make our conversation understandable, and avoid medical terminology except for folks in the medical profession who identify themselves. I try to use subtle humor to set my patient's at ease for their anesthetic experience, but without the clown nose. I am comfortable using ultrasound to help place nerve blocks and invasive monitors in those patients where it may be indicated, and try to balance the anesthetic choice with the patient's expectations.

I believe in walking the talk. That means I walk to and from work to maintain a positive outlook by being outdoors, as well as support good physical health. Backpacking and photography have led me to remote sections of trails locally, and on distant islands. My penultimate physical achievement so far was climbing to the summit of Mount Hood with the American Lung Association of Oregon as a fundraiser. I believe in giving back to my community, so I am a volunteer chairman of afterschool programs in Salem Keizer, and work closely with other non-profits around Salem such as Catholic Community Services and Marion Polk Food Share. I also give back by being an active member of many medical associations at local, state and national levels.
