Acerca de mí
I grew up on the west coast of Florida, longing for seasons other than hot and hotter. I moved to Indiana where I found more snow than I had ever seen. Along the way, I completed my undergraduate degree in English. I then moved next door to Illinois for medical school and more snow — and completed my residency in family medicine. Chicago became my home for the next 10 years, and now I am happy to be living in the Pacific Northwest, with less snow, more rain, and more trees than I have ever seen. It is awe-inspiring to be surrounded by mossy trails, misty waterfalls, and the magnificent Oregon coast.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I chose a career in medicine because I love to be challenged. Every body is the same, but every human is different. Ever-changing ideas push me to read, study, and continue to learn in order to provide the best care possible. I also believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. Caring for others is a privilege, and it makes me a better person, reminding me that kindness changes our communities and our world for the better. Family medicine is about relationships. It is about caring for all people, no matter their age. It is about providing compassion during those darkest times and sharing the delight of those brightest moments. It is about caring for the individual, as well as the entire family. It is about looking after the whole person. Being a family doctor means I do my best to keep my patients informed and empowered, so they can ask questions, understand their own health and take charge of the changes they want to make. It also means I am part of a larger medical team, whose focus is to provide the best care possible so that patients can have the best life possible. Being a family doctor means I work from a place of mutual respect. I have many interests within family medicine, including women's health, LGBTQ health, and adolescent medicine.
Cómo vivo bien
In addition to being a doctor, I am also a writer. So writing and reading are key parts of my everyday world. I am always in search of great stories and gifted storytellers of any kind, whether in books, movies, plays, or poetry. In a forest or near the ocean are some of my favorite outdoor spaces. Spending time with my family, cooking, eating, trying new restaurants, and sampling creative chocolate concoctions top my list of how I like to spend my free time. Traveling has opened my mind and expanded my world view. I will never stop exploring the food, art, and cultures of our world.
