Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in the Marshall Islands but spent the majority of my life after high school in Hawaii and on the Mainland. I attended the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, left for my medical residency and then returned to Hawaii to practice. My parents were both educators and encouraged me to do my best in life, which I have always appreciated because it helped me to become who I am today.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
My first experience with medicine was working for a hospital during a summer high school break. I enjoyed visiting with families at the hospital during that time and was inspired to consider, and then specialize in, family medicine. I love the versatility this field offers, and the wide scope of needs I have the privilege of addressing together with my patients. I really enjoy caring for all of my patients and their families throughout their lives. As a physician with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I feel fortunate to work within our well integrated and coordinated care model, and truly believe in our strong emphasis on prevention and wellness. I am also grateful to be able to expand my leadership skills as the co-chair on the Hawaii Diversity Council and as an active member of Kaiser Permanente’s National Diversity Council. My philosophy of care is to cure sometimes, to heal often and to comfort always. I really try to connect personally with my patients by being casual, grounded and real. I pay particular attention to where my patients come from, their backgrounds and their beliefs, which can connect us much more in our work together.
Cómo vivo bien
I love to be outside and am grateful that I can keep fit by swimming and running on the beach. I am always happiest when I am able to spend time with family and friends. I also enjoy reading medical and non-medical journals, which keeps me professionally, socially and economically current.
