Dónde ejerzo mi práctica médica
Acerca de mí
I was born in San Luis Obispo, California, and later attended high school in Libertyville, Illinois. For my bachelor’s degree, I went to Texas A&M University at Galveston, then to Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan for my medical degree, and finally to the Mayo Clinic, where I was chief resident for my neurosurgery residency.
My wife's family lives in Hawaii and we're thrilled to finally settle here full-time. I've always been drawn to the lifestyle, the weather, the great people, and the beauty of the islands.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I love that my career in medicine offers a combination of science and service to people in need. To me the central nervous system is the most fascinating part of the human body because of its complexity and the control it has over all other functions. My professional interests include neuro-oncology and minimally invasive spine surgery.
I’ve made contributions to a number of scientific articles on topics such as head injuries in children (Journal of Neurosurgery Pediatrics), radiosurgery for lymphoma treatment (World Neurosurgery), and brain aneurysm surgery (BMC Surgery, Neurocritical Care). I’ve also made presentations on neurosurgical procedures to my colleagues at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons conferences.
To keep up with the most current medical research, I use the online resources PubMed and UpToDate. I also attend continuing medical education programs, read professional journals, and consult with my colleagues to find answers to questions that arise in my practice. In addition, my membership in the American Medical Association and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, which are professional educational organizations, gives me access to the latest findings and recommendations in medicine and my specialty.
At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group I found a great group of people in a medical practice run by physicians with caring, supportive staff. HPMG’s approach is patient- and family-centered, values quality of life for all its employees, and provides modern technology to assist providers in delivering the best care they can.
My intention is to treat each patient as a family member or a close loved one, with kindness and respect. In my experience, clear and direct communication is very important in ensuring that my patients know what to expect and are comfortable with their treatment plan.
Cómo vivo bien
Away from work I enjoy spending quality time with my family, gardening, and engaging in all forms of ocean sports. Now that I live in Hawaii, I can indulge in my favorite activity, surfing, which will be my primary vehicle for achieving physical and mental fitness.
