Dónde ejerzo mi práctica médica
Acerca de mí
I grew up in central California, received my undergraduate degree at the University of California, San Diego, and attended Creighton Medical School in Nebraska. I’m now certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Watching my father practice medicine in a small community left a lasting impression on me. Today I strive to bring the same care and attention that he gave to his patients to my own practice. Each time I visited Hawaii before moving here, the spirit, culture, and people made me feel that the islands were where I belonged. It was a blessing to finally have the opportunity to live in this wonderful place.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
My parents had a big influence on my decision to become a doctor. Observing and helping out in my father's practice showed me that this was a setting where I could do good for others and also feel personally fulfilled. During my internal medicine internship I did colon cancer research, an experience that led me to choose gastroenterology as my specialty.
I gave a presentation on DNA testing at Digestive Disease Week and co-authored research and book reviews on various topics in my field. These were published in journals such as Practical Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and Clinical Colorectal Cancer. I also did research on oxygen and quadriceps that was published in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
To keep up with medical research, I attend national conferences, read medical journals in my field, and subscribe to email services covering endoscopic research. My professional organizations—the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology—also keep me informed about current trends and developments.
What first attracted me to Hawaii Permanente Medical Group was its values statement. I’ve had an amazing time working here, during which I’ve enjoyed the teamwork, compassion, and excellence found in this organization. In addition, over the years as our skills have expanded, we’ve devised even more efficient and cost-effective solutions to patient care.
I consider my work to be a calling. My approach to diagnosis, along with having open communication with my patients, allow me to unearth root causes of illnesses and craft treatment plans that help change the course of lives.
Cómo vivo bien
Taekwondo, which integrates physical and emotional health, is a big part of my wellness regimen. Meditation and prayer are as important to me as running, mountain biking, hiking, and snorkeling. I enjoy all outdoor activities, along with movies, filmmaking, music, and theater. I especially value time with my family and friends, participating in my children's theater productions, Cub Scouts activities, and sports events. I’m also a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and the Annual Undy RunWalk colorectal cancer awareness event.
