Acerca de mí
My parents moved to the U.S. from Vietnam when I was a year old to seek greater opportunities for myself and my six siblings. They've overcome tremendous obstacles and given up much in their lives to ensure that their children were raised well, had a good education, and became successful. They’re the most caring, hard-working, determined people I know and have always been inspiring role models.
I grew up in California and earned my Bachelor of Arts at University of California, Berkeley. I then went to the New England College of Optometry in Massachusetts for my Doctor of Optometry degree and did internships in primary eye care, ocular disease, contact lens, pediatrics, and low vision. I did my residency in primary care and ocular disease at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont and then moved to Hawaii with my new husband, who is from the island.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I've always known that I wanted a career in the medical field in order to help people feel better. Optometry allows me to provide immediate gratification to many people. The gift of sight is so precious, and to be able to provide this for patients is a blessing.
To remain current in the most up-to-date medical research, I attend optometry conferences, attend continuing medical education programs, and read medical journals. Also, my membership with American Optometric Association (AOA) and Hawaii Optometric Association (HOA) give me access to the latest developments in my field.
Several of my friends work for Kaiser Permanente in California, and they always raved about how great an organization this is, both as an employer and care delivery system. Also, my sister’s been a pharmacist with Kaiser Permanente in Southern California for many years and strongly encouraged me to look into working with Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. I came here with great expectations, and I haven’t been disappointed. It’s a pleasure to work every day among warm and supportive colleagues and staff.
I believe in taking the time to really listen to my patients in order to learn about their goals and concerns so that I can do my very best for them.
Cómo vivo bien
I find that having a good work-life balance is important to my overall well-being. Spending time outdoors at the beach, hiking, and playing badminton allow me to relax and decompress. I like to cook at home, and I’m always up for exploring different cuisines, whether at a fine dining restaurant or a modest hole-in-the-wall. I also enjoy traveling to new places and having new experiences with my husband.
