I was born in Florida, grew up in Sydney, Australia, and completed high school and college in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where my parents still live. My family means the world to me. My siblings, who live in Australia, are my best friends. I'm overwhelmingly thankful for the support and encouragement I've received from all of my family members throughout my educational journey. I went to the University of Illinois at Chicago for my master’s degree in kinesiology and then to Pacific University in Oregon, where I received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. While in physician assistant school, I completed several clinical rotations in Hawaii and fell in love with the islands!
During my master’s program in kinesiology, I worked and studied in a physiology lab in Chicago. I found that I was most interested in how research findings could be applied in a clinical setting, and this piqued my interest in medicine. What I love about the specialty of nephrology is the intellectual challenge of understanding the disease process.
At Pacific University, my research included a study of the effects of exercise on pediatric burn victims.
To remain current in medicine, I frequent the online sites UpToDate and Pubmed, read various journals, and attend professional conferences.
I wanted to join the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group because of its drive to provide the highest-quality medical care and service. The commitment that the care team members have for their patients and for each other is inspiring.
My approach to care is to do the best that I can for all of my patients and to treat them with empathy, understanding, and respect.
I like to connect with patients by talking story. Knowing where someone comes from - their background, family, ambitions, and work - helps me to understand the person as an individual, which in turn helps me to provide better care.
I love to be active! I enjoy hiking, cycling, running at the gym, ocean kayaking, skiing, and salsa dancing. Having deep conversations with friends or just doing something fun and relaxing is also important to me.
