Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in Texas but lived in Colorado for several years prior to moving to Hawaii. I initially came to the islands with my newborn baby, two children, and husband, who had enrolled in college here. Before becoming a medical doctor, I was an engineer. I received my bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and later went to Texas A&M Health Science Center for my medical degree. I did my residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, where I was chief resident, and I’m now a board certified ob-gyn physician.
My wonderful parents, who visit us frequently, always encouraged me to find meaningful and challenging work. My three kids and husband inspire me every day.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
After working as an engineer for a number of years, I wanted to work more with people while staying in the sciences. Medicine seemed to fit both of those needs. I loved taking care of women, so I chose ob-gyn as my specialty. This field feels like the best of both worlds—delivering babies and being in the operating world, while also offering long-term support for women all along the age spectrum.
My interests include birth control and family planning, adolescent gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery.
To keep up with the most current medical research, I go to professional conferences, read journals in my field and in general medicine, and take continuing medical education courses. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, my professional organization, also provides useful information that I can apply to my practice.
At Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, physicians practice medicine based on the latest findings and recommendations, collaborate with each other for the good of the patients, and prioritize patient care and the patient experience. Working in such an environment is very rewarding.
I like to build communication and trust with my patients by getting to know them and their families. I believe in educating them so that they can be a significant part of the decision-making process. Most of all, I love seeing them as they move through their lives prior to having babies, during pregnancy, and into maturity.
Cómo vivo bien
Keeping a good work life balance is important to me as a working mom. My kids and husband keep me grounded, and I try to enjoy the small things in life. Most of all I love cuddling my little ones, going on date nights with my husband, and cooking and baking for my family. I also like trying new restaurants and traveling.
