I was born in Chicago and lived in Chicago and Michigan until I was 12. My family moved to upstate New York and I lived there through college and medical school. After doing my residency in Connecticut, I was lucky to get my first job with Kaiser Permanente in Northern California and lived in the East Bay until I moved to Maui in 2012. My parents emigrated to the U.S. in the 1960s from India. I am the first physician in my family. I have an older brother and a younger sister and dozens of cousins, aunts, and uncles.
The husband of an older cousin and a family friend, who were both physicians whom I admire, influenced my choice of career. I was drawn to my specialty by the depth and variety of problems that could be treated with very good results through surgery. At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I like having the ability to be a part of an organization that makes quality, service, and good stewardship of our members’ health care dollars a priority. In my practice, I aim to alleviate the anxiety and fear of surgery felt by many patients. I like to remain accessible and really enjoy that my patients can email me directly. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I am a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. To stay current with the latest research in my field, I attend regular conferences in my specialty, as well as local and national continuing medical education programs.
I enjoy traveling and seeing my extended network of family and friends. I also like to read, cook, spend time at the beach, work out, and design and make jewelry.
