Acerca de mí
I was born and raised in the Midwest. After college, I moved to California to attend graduate school. I earned a master’s degree and then enrolled in medical school. That is where I was introduced to Kaiser Permanente medicine, through a family friend who was a Kaiser Permanente doctor in Hayward, Calif. Eleven years later, a doctor I met there would become one of the founders of Kaiser Permanente in Georgia.During one of my medical school summers, I worked at Yosemite National Park, where I met my wife. We were married there several years later. I completed a family practice residency in Hershey, Pa., but realized that pediatrics was what I loved best. I returned to California to complete my pediatrics residency and was then accepted into the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I spent two years working with the Ohio Department of Health. After that, I relocated to Atlanta, which has been our home since 1985.My wife and I have a son who graduated from college and is now living in Chicago and a daughter who is attending college in Washington, D.C.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
Kaiser Permanente has a great pediatrics department. I have worked at our Tucker location (first called Northlake, now Crescent Centre) since I joined in 1991. My training and work with the CDC developed my interest in keeping children healthy, especially through injury prevention and use of vaccinations. I also have an interest in infectious diseases. In Kaiser Permanente, I serve on the peer review committee, research committee and as chairman of the institutional review board. This committee ensures that all research done by Kaiser Permanente’s Georgia region is carried out safely and ethically. Three days a month, I take care of hospitalized Kaiser Permanente patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
Cómo vivo bien
I exercise as many days a week as I can. It is a great way to burn off tension and generate energy. A good diet is also key, and I am fortunate to have a wife who cooks healthy meals. I try to keep mentally sharp by solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles. My wife and I both love the outdoors and have returned to traveling and hiking in the mountains. I enjoy reading and try to fit in as much fiction and non-fiction as I can between the medical journals. We also keep the DVD player busy as we watch a variety of movies, anything from mainstream Hollywood films to independent and foreign movies.
