Acerca de mí
I am originally from Canada, but I have lived in the Atlanta area since I was 3 years old, so I am almost a native Georgian. I have been an avid reader since before I can remember, and I continued that passion as I entered college as an English major at Emory University. Subsequently, I discovered another related passion of understanding the human mind and behavior. I spent a couple of years as a research assistant and statistics tutor at Georgia State University before receiving my master's and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology (PsyD) from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. I completed my internship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital specializing in behavioral medicine, where I treated patients with comorbid medical and mental health issues. Subsequently, I completed my postdoctoral residency in health services psychology at the Emory University School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. There, I shared my time between Grady's pediatric infectious disease program and building the integrated behavioral health program in Grady's adult primary care clinics. I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2018.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
As a clinical psychologist with Kaiser Permanente's Behavioral Health Department, I provide several different types of services to our members. My practice includes individual, family, couple and group psychotherapy. I enjoy working with a wide variety of problems and ages. However, I have particular expertise and experience in working with comorbid medical conditions, mood disorders, relationship/interpersonal problems, LGBT issues, substance use, and severe/persistent mental illness. In my work with our members, my initial goals are to form a meaningful connection, develop an understanding of what brings the member to therapy, and work collaboratively to establish goals for therapy. I tend to employ a range of treatment modalities tailored to address cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal aspects of members' lives. My focus is directed toward helping everyone who comes into my office address the problems they are experiencing so that they can go on to lead happy, fulfilling lives.
Cómo vivo bien
For me, thriving involves being active physically and mentally, connecting with family and friends, staying mindful, and not taking myself too seriously. I have a diverse range of hobbies, including playing piano, traveling, volunteering, swimming, finding new restaurants to try, collecting indoor plants (and trying not to kill them), and going to exercise classes at my local barre studio. Barre classes have been a great way to strengthen my mind-body connection and energize me. Life is all about balance.
