Acerca de mí
I am a Kingston, Jamaica native. I attended nursing school in New York, where I lived for 13 years after relocating from Jamaica. My desire to become a nurse practitioner came after many years of being a registered nurse. I often wanted to have more input in the care of my patients, but was restricted by the scope of practice of a registered nurse. I chose primary care as my specialty because of the ability to provide preventive care and education to many patients and to be able to impact them before they develop a preventable illness.
I have a wonderful husband who I met before I started nursing school. We enjoy traveling together and have the privilege of being the parents of two adorable daughters. I am satisfied by the simpler things in life such as spending time with family and friends, watching movies, going on walks and cooking dishes from various cultures.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I enjoy working in primary care because of the opportunity to focus on prevention and to minimize the severity of diseases through early intervention and patient education. In this setting, we are often the first people that our members come to when they have a medical complaint, and unlike many other specialties, we also see people when they are well for preventive care.
I serve a dual role at Kaiser Permanente. Not only do I see members in the clinic, but I also assist the physicians in managing some of the patient messages. This includes patients' requests for prescription refills, referrals and general questions pertaining to their health. I appreciate how important it is for the overall health and satisfaction of our members to have their requests addressed as promptly as possible. I am passionate about this role and am committed to addressing these requests as quickly as possible.
Cómo vivo bien
Each day when I wake up, I ask God to give me the strength, knowledge and courage to get through another day that I have been blessed to see. Life is short and precious and I do not take it for granted. I try to always have something to look forward to such as a vacation or an upcoming holiday. Sometimes this can get you through a difficult day. I constantly remind myself of how fortunate I am to have good health and a blessed life. I think that the best way to combat stress is through prayer, laughter and being around people with a great sense of humor.
