Though I grew up in the Midwest, it did not take me long to call Atlanta home. I attended the Westminster Schools for high school and received my undergraduate degree from Emory University. After college, I moved to Philadelphia for medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, where I stayed on for both my internship in internal medicine and residency in radiation oncology. Oncology was a natural fit for me because I became a physician to help people with serious illnesses get better. Radiation oncology attracted me because it is one of the most technologically advanced means to treat cancer, premised on carefully tailoring treatment to each patient. The part of my job that I value most, however, are the close relationships I am able to make with our members while caring for them through their treatment course and beyond. After completing my residency training, I chose to move back home to Atlanta. I practiced for two years at Piedmont Hospital, where I cared for many wonderful Kaiser Permanente members, before joining the talented team of caregivers at Kaiser Permanente. I chose Kaiser Permanente because our health care model allows me to focus on the thing I love most about medicine: patient care.
In my practice, I put the patient first. I partner with our members in the decision-making process, and educate them about their cancer and the full range of treatment options available to them - including surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This empowers them to make the best and most informed decision about their own care. The unique Kaiser Permanente model of highly coordinated care enables our multidisciplinary oncology team to successfully get our members through their treatment, so that they can hopefully return to living healthy, normal, cancer-free lives. I treat a broad range of cancers including prostate, breast, lung, gastrointestinal, head and neck, gynecologic, hematologic and sarcomatous cancer. I make every effort to stay up-to-date on emerging research and to offer our members treatment with leading technologies to help maximize their chance for cure while simultaneously minimizing their risk of side effects. My clinical priorities include patient safety and quality outcomes.
I believe in living with positive energy because it translates into improved health, higher productivity and better relationships. While away from work, I enjoy reading about American history, listening to live music, traveling and spending as much time outdoors as I can.
