Acerca de mí
I grew up near Philadelphia, and am a newcomer to Colorado. I went south to Baltimore for my undergraduate experience at Johns Hopkins University, and returned to Philadelphia for medical school, where I attended Thomas Jefferson Medical College. After this, I was ready to move away from the East Coast, but didn’t make it very far at first. My journey west started with residency in Canton, Ohio, to complete my Family Medicine training at Aultman Hospital. After finishing my residency, I worked in an immediate care in Canton before leaving the Atlantic Ocean and moving out to Colorado to join Kaiser Permanente in 2014.
Acerca de mi práctica médica
I love family medicine because of the wide scope of practice. We see adults and children, men and women, young and old. We are not limited by body part or organ system. This training prepared me well for my experience in the Immediate Care, where we saw whoever came through the door. I learned a lot about medicine while working there, and it reinforced my feelings about education. I believe that patient education is the key to making the medical system work. It empowers patients to make good decisions regarding their care. The old model of physicians telling patients what to do is changing. There is so much information available to the general population now that it is important for everyone to know how to access it, and avoid misinformation. I see the physician’s role becoming that of educator, and I see the family physician at the heart of this movement. Kaiser Permanente strives to put these tools at the disposal of their members. We can provide our patients with information, both in person and by providing ways to access accurate information, and encourage our patients to be active participants in their healthcare. When people buy in to this idea and feel responsible for their health, they are much more likely to thrive.
Como vivo bien
I have found that being active helps me to thrive, and I enjoy spending time outdoors. After a few years in a state that is often cloudy, three hundred days a year of sunshine sounded fantastic. I like the hiking and biking that Colorado has to offer, and I gained a deep respect for altitude. I enjoy playing and watching most sports, and have no plans to abandon my Philly teams. From soccer to football, hockey to Frisbee, I’m willing to watch or try almost anything. After spending my entire life close to sea level, I am still regularly shocked to see mountains when I look out the windows. I climbed Mount Evans before moving out to Denver and my goal is to work my way through the rest of Colorado’s "14'ers".
